Description
Sabre Education is an award winning specialist education charity working in Ghana to improve the lives of poor and marginalised children aged four-five years old. Our Brighter Futures Programme, delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, provides an innovative and carefully considered response to the challenges of poor learning environments and weak teacher capacity in the early years education sector. The Brighter Futures Programme is made up of two key programmes; Transformational Teacher Training and Supporting Playful School Environments.
Our Transformational Teacher Training is carried out in direct partnership with the Ghana Education Service, Universities and Colleges of Education to deliver high quality pre-service and in-service early years’ teacher training to student teachers, in-service teachers and head teachers. The teacher training content is fully aligned with the Ghanaian Government’s play-based KG curriculum.
Our Supporting Playful School Environments work builds innovative KG school complexes or renovates existing sub-standard schools, providing an optimal learning environment for play-based KG teaching and learning. Our schools not only function as a government school, but they also provide a focal point for changing attitudes towards play-based KG education, and a venue for teacher training courses.
These key programmes are intertwined with close engagement with the Government of Ghana, to ensure the long-term sustainability of our work. Sabre’s work is fully aligned with the Government of Ghana’s strategy for kindergarten towards Ghana’s efforts to meet sustainable development goal 4.2 – universal access to pre-primary education.
Between 2008 and 2021 our work in Ghana has reached:
-4,497 teachers, head teachers and student teachers
-530 Ghana Education Service officers
-25 College of Education tutors
-961 Newly Qualified Teachers
-102,730 kindergarten pupils
