Description
Established in 1992, Rescue Dada Centre has grown from a two room rescue operation in Nairobi’s Mathare Slum to an experienced, registered Charitable Children’s Institute (CCI) with the capacity to rescue, rehabilitate, reintegrate and resocialize 70 street girls every year. Its expertise in the field of rehabilitation and reintegration is recognised amongst numerous actors in the field, including the governments Children’s Department and various CCIs and (international) NGOs. Besides, Rescue Dada has impacted many lives through its programmes. The Child Protection Programme, since 2016, has rescued a total of 144 and 65 street connected girls are currently at the centre. The Empowerment Programme has increased the livelihood security of care givers of street connected children and children at risk of entering the street and other vulnerable members from informal settlements through vocational training, and business support to start income generating activities.Rescue Dada in this way has been able to contribute to the eradication of child poverty and has been successful in creating opportunities for former street connected girls to have a chance for a better and dignified tomorrow.
