Description

Miss Koch Kenya (MKK) is a not-for-profit youth empowerment organization. It was founded in 2001 as a community-based organization (CBO) to address the vulnerability of girls and young women in the Korogocho slum of Nairobi.  At the time of establishment crime and gender-based violence were rife in Korogocho. The culture of silence that existed at the time led to impunity, lawlessness, and much suffering of the local population, especially women and girls. The few groups, organizations, and individuals that tried to address the situation were not successful due to fragmented approaches and lack of supportive structures.
