Key Information
The development objectives of Girls Empowerment and Quality Education for All Project for Sao Tome and Principe are to equip girls with life skills and improve student learning outcomes for all. This project has five components. 1) The first component, Empowering Girls through the Acquisition of Life Skills and the Promotion of a Safe School Environment, aims at promoting the acquisition of life skills and strengthening SRH education through girls’ and boys’ clubs and community outreach strategies. It has the following sub-components: (i) Imparting life skills and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education; and (ii) Fostering a safer school environment. 2) The second component, Tackling Learning Poverty, has the following sub-components: (i) Teacher professional development and provision of Teaching and Learning Material (TLMs); (ii) Strengthening teacher management and school leadership; and (iii) Classroom observation and Learning assessment systems. 3) The third component, Reaching the Most Vulnerable, aims to support improved learning outcomes among students who are lagging behind by preventing them from repeating and dropping out of school and to reduce the number of out-of-school children. 4) The fourth component, Project Coordination, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Capacity Building, has the following two sub-components: (i) Project Coordination and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E); and (ii) Capacity development, research and policy analysis. 5) The fifth component, Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC) aims to allow the government to request the World Bank to provide rapid reallocation of project funds to respond promptly and effectively to an eligible emergency or crisis that is a natural or man-made disaster or crisis that has caused or is likely to imminently cause a major adverse economic and/or social impact.
