Key Information

The development objective of the Innovation, Inclusion and Quality Project for Georgia are to (i) expand access to preschool education and (ii) improve the quality of education and learning environments. It has five components. The first component, Improving the Quality of and Access to Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), is to provide support to facilitate expanded access to quality pre‐school education in selected pre‐schools. It has three sub-components: (i) Improving the quality of ECEC programs across the country; (ii) Increasing equitable access to preschool education for successful transition to school; and (iii) Improving infrastructure to support innovative primary education, including preschool. The second component, Fostering Quality Teaching and Learning in General Education, is to provide a learning environment that is conducive to quality education in selected general education schools. It has four components: (i) Improving the educational infrastructure to support learning; (ii) Supporting the scaling up of the whole‐school improvement pilot; (iii) Supporting the capacity‐building of teachers and school leaders (principals) to adapt, develop, and implement school‐based curriculum; and (iv) Assisting the development of a national assessment framework. The third component, Strengthening Financing Options and Promoting Internationalization in Higher Education, is to improve the quality and international competitiveness of higher education. It has four sub-components: (i) Developing new options for higher education financing, including performance‐based options to support the Government’s strategic objective; (ii) Establishment of a Competitive Innovation Fund (CIF) for public and private universities, in partnership with private sector; (iii) Promoting internationalization of higher education; and (iv) Strengthening the quality of pre‐service teacher education programs.
