Mayi ndi Mayi Pachuma Project
- P Project/Program
? Activity Status: Unknown
Key Information
This program is run by the organization Teams Advancing Women in Agriculture (TAWINA). Although more than 80% of rural Malawi women engage in economic activities to support their families and gain economic independence, less than 5% realize their dreams .TAWINA records (2017-2019) indicate that out of its 22 women groups (about 974 women) who are involved in micro-enterprises in dairy farming, soya bean, honey production, pig rearing and agroforestry have reached commercial status to attract large buyers. These have been hampered by limited market information, knowledge and skills, low literacy levels, limited of freedom of movement, lack of decision and negotiation among others. The Mayi ndi Mayi Pachuma program aims at addressing this gap by empowering women financially through provision of enhanced marketing information and linkages; Peer to Peer monitoring, community awareness as well as capacity building programs to equip women with market-oriented enterprising. The program is targeting 10 women-groups whose membership consists 50% widows with adolescent girls at risk of child marriage and/or single mothers.
