Key Information
UNICEF has worked with the Government of Benin to provide an in-service training plan for kindergarten and primary teachers. This was developed in 2019 in response to the low capacity of teachers and in order to strengthen their role in creating a secure school environment for girls and boys. The training focused on themes such as: reducing violence against children (especially girls in school), deliver sexual health education and promote peace education. Additionaly, in the field of education, deliberate efforts to strengthen access to and retention of girls and adolescents in school, including through distribution of school kits for around 92,000 girls from schools in the 3 departments and the endowment of 93 secondary schools with latrines and showers.
