Building Safe Schools Program

Key Information
After successful fundraising efforts, a new primary school was built in Pish, Tajikistan. The former primary school was built several years ago without input from any engineers or professional builders. As a result, the structure was falling apart. It didn't have a proper roof or floor, which made it usable only in the summertime (and the summertime in remote Tajikistan is very short). Even then, the condition of the building made attending class dangerous. It also lacked a toilet, forcing the teachers and dozens of students to share one small toilet with the nearby village. Construction of the new primary school began in May 2018 and was finished in the winter, under the supervision of engineer Asad Oliftaev.
