Key Information
The Waseela-e-Taleem Program was launched in November 2012 in five districts, but it was made active in all of Pakistan’s districts by 2020. It operates under the National Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), the Waseela e Taleem Program specifically seeks to assist low-income families in meeting their fundamental needs, including their children’s education. The education of the children of Active Sponsorship of Education beneficiaries up to the upper secondary level is subject to a cash transfer program. Sponsored families make sure their kids are enrolled, present, and attending school and college to receive additional income stipends. The government has implemented this approach with the BISP Waseela e Taleem program to encourage people have incentives to send their daughters to school. In the 2018 National Education Policy Framework, Pakistan deliniated that "all provinces are already providing girls stipends for transition to secondary" and the government "will consider better targeting of stipends for improved results". The program has two requirements for its continuity to the beneficiary:
- Enrollment in a college/school
- attaining a 70% quarterly attendance rate
