Key Information

The project, Storytelling For Change "Stories of Kisumu" focuses on preventing sexual gender-based violence (SGBV), Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Early Marriages, Wife Inheritance and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Kisumu County, Kenya. ATE wants to cast a light on these issues with SDG 5 - "Achieve gender equality and empower all” and SDG 10 - "Reduce inequality within and among countries"

ATE envisions fostering effective collaborations and building a platform for creative changemakers across Kisumu to create their own unique voice. They use tools such as storytelling for change to highlight the voices of vulnerable women through performances in spoken word and theater. They aim to create dialogue with the communities and advocate for enacting laws for women and girls empowerment in Manyatta, Obunga and Nyalenda informal settlements. ATE involves women and girls in capacity building on effective referral pathways and use social media and short film trainings to amplify their voices towards gender equality and equity.

OBJECTIVES

To employ theatre for social change, short film production and social media campaigns to educate women and girls on effective referral pathways on gender based violence at the community level.

ACTIVITIES

Community theatre and dialogue sessions (to mentor girls and women on effective referral pathways), training of women and girls on short film production and social media campaigns to amplify their voices on sexual gender-based violence).
