Key Information

Red Dot Bhutan, under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck, marked Menstrual Hygiene Day 2023 with the inauguration of an inclusive toilet at Khuruthang Middle Secondary School in Punakha. This project is part of a larger initiative, in collaboration with UNICEF and other partners, to support the Ministry of Education and Skills Development in constructing inclusive toilets that address menstrual hygiene management (MHM) for girls with disabilities. The effort culminated in the inauguration of inclusive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities across eight Special Education Needs (SEN) schools in Bhutan, ensuring equitable access to sanitation for students with disabilities. Khuruthang Middle Secondary School is one of the eight SEN schools that now host facilities designed to meet the specific needs of students with disabilities, particularly girls. These inclusive toilets prioritize essential features such as water access, privacy, waste disposal, and sanitary product availability, addressing the unique challenges of menstrual hygiene for individuals with disabilities.
