Key Information
According to the 2012 Population and Housing Census in Niger, 15 to 30 year-olds represent more than 27% of the population of Agadez (131,455 people) and 25% of the population of Zinder (898,447 people). The regions of Zinder and Agadez alone account for almost a third of the population of this demographic in Niger. Its young people suffer from difficult access to land or agricultural production resources, the reluctance of financial institutions to grant loans, and poor opportunities for vocational training. These factors largely limit their capacity for self-employment and their employability in paid employment, leading to a high rate of underemployment and unemployment. The activities will aim, on the one hand, to strengthen the institutional capacities in the two regions concerned for the management of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and, on the other hand, to improve the employability of more than 6,000 young girls and boys. Several forms of support are provided, including: the development of training through public and private centres, improved conditions for training and learning, and support for the development of micro and small enterprises by young trainees.
