Key Information
The development objective of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Education Response Project for Togo was to increase access to distance learning in grades 1 to 9 and support the safe and effective re-opening of schools. The project comprises of three components: (i) ensuring education continuity will establish mechanisms to cope with the immediate impacts of school closures, (ii) supporting safe schools reopening and student re-entry objective is to support government in the re-opening of schools and keeping learners safe and (iii) project management, capacity building, and monitoring and evaluation objective is to support project management costs, including staffing of the project coordination unit (PCU), supervision, and project audits, as well as technical assistance, monitoring and evaluation (including the setting up of a geo-enabling method), reporting, communication, training, operating costs, and strengthen lessons from COVID-19 crisis. The program Theory of Change (TOC) targeted specifidally girls through media campaigns. The program supported parents and caregivers to be involved in home-based schooling and able to monitor children at home so to ensure effective distance/home-based schooling and relay gender-based messages through sensitization campaigns aimed to increase awareness on the importance of girls’ education and spread gender-based messages aimed to reduce the negative impacts of school closures. These messages targeted all community members, with a focus on girls.
