Key Information
This is a project in the Education sector. The project aims to: Strengthen the social actions of women and girls with and without disabilities against gender inequality and gender-based violence; Improve equal access to secondary education, including vocational education, for women and girls with and without disabilities; Improve livelihood opportunities for women and girls with and without disabilities; Mobilization and promotion of education authorities at provincial, district and school level, elementary school teachers, women's organizations, community in general.
The project is operating in Maputo Province, covering two districts, namely Manhiça and Marracuene. The activities will take place in 10 locations, including 6 in Marracuene and 4 in Manhiça.
The plan consists of training 9,000 girls/women in dressmaking, agriculture and entrepreneurship over a period of 3 years. Each year, 3,000 girls/young women will be trained. The project will train 2,600 men and boys, as well as teachers and school managers, community and traditional leaders, civil society organizations, to be activists and advocates on gender equality and human rights. The project will mobilize around 50,000 community members through public campaigns over 3 years, i.e. 17,000 community members will be reached each year, which corresponds to 8,500 per district each year.
The courses will be taught by a trainer from each locality and 1 district trainer will work on specific courses in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and the use of digital platforms called APTUS, which will be provided by COL. The course will take place once a week, lasting 2 hours a day.
The project will collaborate with local education authorities and distance learning Secondary Schools to ensure the enrolment of girls/women attending distance learning or returning to school. As a way of creating a better environment for girls at school, the project will coordinate with the local education authorities and create synergy with the Viva+ project to use the existing system to retain girls at school. The project will work with the school corners, which serve as a safe space for counselling and reporting violations.
The activities are done in strong collaboration with the Provincial Department of Education, Health, Gender and Human Development.
The project will have Project Coordinator/team leader, 1 M&A, 1 Gender Officer, 2 Master Trainers, 10 Local Trainers, 1 Financial Manager.
