Description
OASIS is advancing education and choice for women and girls in the Sahel. We envision a healthy and resilient Sahel where women and girls are educated and free to make critical life choices. OASIS works with a network of strong local partners in the Sahel. These core partner organizations were co-founded by OASIS and are now locally-led. We have three key approaches: 1. Develop, cultivate and scale evidence-based programs. 2. Conduct research to inform policy and practice. 3. Build local leadership and advocacy capacity. Our key girls' education programing is safe space clubs for girls in rural Niger and Nigeria. Safe Spaces are mentored groups proven to delay marriage by keeping girls in school. Teenage girls connect with peers, gain critical life skills and bridge gaps in academic learning—especially reading, writing, and math. The program was developed based on deep ethnographic research and in partnership with the communities where we work.
