Description

Smile Foundation is an Indian development organization directly benefiting over 15,00,000 children and families every year, through more than 400 live welfare projects on education, healthcare, livelihood and women empowerment, in over 1000 remote villages and slums across 25 states of India. Smile Foundation aims to work as a catalyst in bringing sustainable change in the lives of underprivileged children, youth and women, with a life-cycle approach of development. The organization believes that when women and girls are empowered, the whole society benefits. An educated girl child grows up to be an aware and independent woman, contributes to the country’s economy, supports her partner as an equal, knows and asserts her rights. As a mother, she makes informed choices for her family, sends her children to school and provides her own daughter an equal opportunity to learn and grow, ensuring that the cycle of change continues from generation to generation. With this belief, Smile Foundation keep women and girls at the centre of all its welfare programmes.

Some of Smile Foundation’s major interventions, with special focus on women and girls are:

  1. Quality education from pre-primary to senior secondary level
  2. Merit-based scholarship support to complete schooling & higher education
  3. Healthcare services at doorstep through mobile hospital programme & health camps
  4. Antenatal & postnatal care and services to expecting women & new mothers
  5. Awareness on & access to menstrual & reproductive healthcare
  6. Skill-based, vocational training & entrepreneurship development to enhance employability & financial independence
  7. Life skill training, confidence building, personality development  for adolescent girls
  8. Advocacy & awareness to bring behavioral change at community level for long-term sustainability
  9. Developing the young girls as Change Agents
  10. In the current scenario, when lockdown is affecting most with working/studying from home, increased screen time, restricted social exchanges; we are also preparing the girls with better coping skills for their emotional well-being.

Touching multiple aspects of their lives through these interventions, Smile Foundation aims at the overall empowerment of women and girls from disadvantaged communities, helping them reach their highest potential. In Financial Year 2020-21, Smile Foundation directly benefitted 371,387 women and girls, thus enabling them to create a better life for themselves.
