Key Information

The J/Nadeshwara Kanista Vidyalayam Kankesanthurai school reopened in 2016 after 27 years when families began returning to Kankesanthurai after the end of the country’s long civil war. Through the Seeds for a Brighter Future program UNICEF renovated the school and UNDP provided materials for school gardens. Gardens were planted this year with support from implementing partner OfERR Ceylon. Trainers from the Department of Agriculture provide instruction on how to care for an organic garden. The school garden helps address nutritional deficiencies and provide income for families returning from conflict.
