The PFCE aims to improve the quality of education in Mexico by providing funding to schools for activities such as teacher training, curriculum development, and educational infrastructure improvements. In regards to funding for higher education institutions, there are several mentions of the importance of gender equity. For instance, for institutions to qualify for funding, two of the requirements are that the institution: 1. Strengthen the institutional programs of accompaniment to the students for their permanence, graduation and timely qualification from a gender perspective; 2. Promote a transversal gender equality policy among administrative staff, teachers and students, as well as in educational processes.Further, among the different types of financial support that may be offered to higher education institutions, is financing to "[Carry] out projects that promote gender equality, with favorable results in the evaluation and replication stages, as the case may be, within the framework of the biennial planning established in the Operating Rules of the immediately preceding fiscal year of this Program." Finally, the rules of operation state that for academic institutions that receive financial support, "...specific indicators must be incorporated to allow the evaluation of the impact of budgetary programs on equality between women and men, the eradication of gender violence and any form of discrimination based on gender, disability, ethnic origin, or other forms."
