Key Information

The development objectives of Education Modernization Project are to: (i) improve access to quality learning environment in selected general secondary schools; and (ii) strengthen student assessment and education management information systems of Belarus. This project requires additional financing that will help to cover the costs associated with the scale-up of some activities initiated under the original loan, as well as the addition of a few new complementary activities. It requires the following changes: (i) increase the number of improved learning spaces in Belarus and introduce innovative approaches to learning environments and schools in rural areas; (ii) expand the scope of the transformational activities related to the management and quality of Belarus education; (iii) align the results framework with the proposed changes and additional resources; (iv) increase the implementation capacity of the borrower by allowing project implementation unit (PIU) salaries to be financed from the project proceeds; and (v) extend the closing date of the project by four years from February 28, 2021 to February 28, 2025.
